B&G Milkyway is set to begin construction on its Harrisburg location Wednesday as the popular seasonal treat shop expands its local footprint.
The Harrisburg store will stick to Milkyway’s time-tested business model for ice cream and other warm-weather eats when it opens in the spring of next year, co-owner Kasey Iverson said.
But Iverson sees new potential for serving Harrisburg residents, giving them a new option for dining out, especially with the addition of a drive-thru, he said.
“I think the reputation of B&G kind of speaks for itself; they’ve been around for many many years,” Iverson said. “We’d like to keep that reputation going.”
Iverson is a franchisee of the Sioux Falls-area chain who co-owns two other locations with his brother – the B&G in Brandon and the location on Sycamore Avenue.
Having the well-known brand hang its shingle in Harrisburg will contribute to the town’s already rapid growth, while also allowing it to keep more sales tax dollars in the community, said Brandon J. Lane, President and CEO of the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce.
The new B&G will go at the intersection of Cliff Avenue and Willow Street, right near where Sanford/Lewis have purchased land and next to growing mixed-use developments from Signature and Van Buskirk Companies.
“We’re at a breaking point at the seams with rooftops and the amount of construction and building we have down there,” Lane said.
